[Rant/Vent] Asian parents, the "Comparison Game", and being hypocritical

As an asian kid who was born in australia and so took the lad back personality that most Australians have, having Asian parents is a real bad combination. All through life since school reports/tests were a thing, all I remember is being negatively compared to other people in my classes, every time I got one of these reports during school they would ask what my friends got. If there was even a slight gap of them doing a little bit better than I did, they would always say "Why are you not like X friend?" ( the friend being the highest scored of my group of friends at the time). If I said anything about the rest of us geting the same grade or score, my parents would snap back with "We are talking about you, not them!" then why bring up my friends scores in the first place if it was about me?

I don't know about other asian kids but not only is this happening with the schooling context, but out of school as well. if i ever have a friend over and they are talking to my parents, my parents will take every oportunity make me seem like a shitty son. If they have a nice long chat with my parents, they will take that oportunity to say that I don't say anything most of the day to them, which is due to other issues with my asian parents altogether. They will also relentlessly go on about how I play too many games and that every time they look at me i'm playing a game (Aparently anything that isnt study to my parents is "playing a game") which is a bit hypocritical when my mum spends pretty much all day playing candy crush and my dad doesn't even bat an eye.

Even now when im 22 and about to take a 6 month break from study because of the pressure they will compare me to a friend who has finished their study in a completely different field and end up going with the "you're a shitty student" way of thinking and now beat me over the head with it any chance they get.
