Why do Asian families still go to each other’s gatherings when they hate each other?

Post Body

My mom makes us go to her oldest brother’s family events and his kids give my siblings death stares. My cousins hate my mother because she’s a toxic person, but she is very close to their dad (her brother).

My uncle’s family hosted three funerals the past 10 years, and I remember how excluded my siblings were at the funeral. It felt like we were unwelcome. I always wondered why people would be so mad when you go to their family members’ funeral. Like why tf did I waste my time to go to a setting where people hate me? Why couldn’t they give us a fake smile or welcome to make things less awkward until the funerals are over?
