Overly prideful parents

Post Body

My parents are so overly prideful to where it hurts them and me collaterally.

Nothing I love more than my dad yelling up a storm about how heā€™s so tired from working and he wakes up early stays late etc. And he works weekends, too. But itā€™s all his choice. He misses out on important celebrations and events to work and sometimes not even more a lot of money.

His birthday was last month. We were going to take him out to dinner and I was willing to pay for it all. His choice, anywhere he wants to eat. He ended up flaking to do a job. He came home late and started yelling at everyone for a tiny thing because heā€™s so tired and ā€œthis is what he gets for his birthday.ā€ Like it couldā€™ve been basically a $300 grand meal that he gets for free but no he had to work.

I pay rent since I started working early this year. $400. I said ā€œif youā€™re so tired if youā€™re so busy then I can pay $1000 a month instead so you can work less and rest more.ā€ He got so offended and started yelling about how I got this nice paying job and now I donā€™t know the value of money like he does, and that Iā€™m not hardworking like he is.

Every week itā€™s the same spiel. I work from home so my work doesnā€™t count. He doesnā€™t mind barging into my room to yell and Iā€™ll get off work and heā€™ll be mad because I couldnā€™t clean the house or something. Speaking of which I offered to hire a cleaner since he spends hours cleaning every week. He said that was embarrassing and was insulted that I even asked.

I tried everything I could at my ripe age of 23 to help this fucking idiot but it seems he wants to stay miserable and blame it on everyone else. I havenā€™t moved out yet because while I was about to a few months ago my company had layoffs, and I only started last year so if I get laid off I wonā€™t have enough savings for finishing an apartment lease while unemployed.
