I was studying some history about the Silk Road and came across this…

...a record from a medieval merchant from Nizhny Novgorod who was traveling the Silk Road in 14th century Mongolia suggests this was also common practice:

“As the sun dipped below the horizon, the air was filled with the sounds of laughter, music, and the clinking of cups. I was astonished by the sheer exuberance of the celebration. During the festivities, my attention was drawn to a striking Mongolian woman. She was a skilled horsewoman, as I had observed during the day's competitions. Her beauty was accentuated by her powerful presence, and she was the center of attention for many of the tribe's men. As the night progressed, I noticed something. This woman was openly engaging in intimate activities with several different men from the tribe who held high status. This was done with pride from the woman without any apparent shame or secrecy. She had no notion of sin. My curiosity piqued, I decided to inquire further about this practice.

An elder, who had been observing my interest explained. He said that in his culture, women are free to choose many intimate partners for both the long-term and short-term. That their people believe that when a woman has multiple intimate partners, she absorbs the strengths and abilities of each man, enhancing her own capabilities and wisdom."

Maybe my distant relative? I have Mongolian genes… 😉🤫 I can relate!
