Djehuty's Skull is impossible to wield, only the staff is ever summoned.

I invested all of my skill points into Djehuty's Skull...and it is now impossible to bring out. No matter what angle I try, only the staff is ever summoned to my hands. You can't change the position of the skull either, it has to be your head which is almost always going to register as your shoulder.
I am now severely frustrated with this game if not outright softlocked. Help please.
