Hi people. I'm a straight 19yo girl who is writing a novel about teenagers growing up and discovering themselves (mostly).
I am here because one of the main characters of my book is, indeed, asexual. I've been aware of existence of this sexuality for more than five years, and (I think) I'm informed about it. I've been doing some research about asexuality itself and what it means to be asexual, mostly in western society and the stigmas other people have about it.
However, as a person who has never experienced not having sexual desire at all, and most importantly, not having ever met an asexual person irl, I don't think that's enough for an accurate representation. So that's mostly the reason why I am here.
I want to do a realistic representation of an asexual, and what it means to be one, not only for the person itself, but how other people see them. Since my character is, of course, a teenager, I want to tell his struggles with him coming to terms with his asexuality. So, I want to portray the difficulties aces face in adolescence, and youth, the stigmas, and the inner struggles they may or may not face.
I'm open to hearing personal experiences (only if you want to, of course :) ), since that would also be very helpful.
Thanks in advance.
