Why am i on year 3, yet still searching up the same tutorials?

Ive been drawing for a while now, ive memorized all the main anatomy, almost perfected my three dimensional drawing planes, but when ever i try to draw small things, like faces, how short or long to make the torso and arms, im always forced to look up a tutorial. I dont like to draw from references, but will those help? How do i make my art more consistant and clean?
