For an art school portfolio- is it okay to remove pencil markings on a photo of a physical piece I don't have with me?

Post Body

Hi, I have a piece that I forgot to take a photo of after I removed the pencil markings. I now am physically separated from that piece (it's in storage and I can't easily access it) and I am close to submitting an art school portfolio that'll have this piece. It's one of my strongest pieces, but theres the pencil markings. I did a good job removing them with some work digitally, but is that wrong? Would they understand?
