Are non-american comicbook artists at a disadvantage?

Post Body

I'm an aspiring comicbook artist from a country in Europe. I understand a major part of getting your work out there and getting known is networking, which comprehends sending your portfolio to editors or, if you can, showing your work to people at cons. Now, considering many important editors and comic cons are based in the USA, is someone like me at a disadvantage compared to a similar aspiring artist from the USA? I only want honest answers, not trying to look for reassurances.
