What's the purpose of Smart Links(linktree, linkfire) if an artist already has a website?

Post Body

I'm helping a family member build an online presence for his music and currently working on making a website for him. Before starting I went to the websites of other musicians and looked around to get a feel for how a website for an artist's website should/could be structured and what's considered the norm.

While looking around, I noticed almost every artist would have a "stream now" or "buy now" button that would link to a smart link list of all of their streaming services. Now I understand having all the links in one place is convenient, but if you already have a website why is it better to use a smart link list if you could just list those links directly on the website?

Am I not understanding the full use case for smart links when it comes to musicians?
