Will Industrial Sketching help me storyboard and thumbnail?
Post Body

So for a couple years now I’ve been hyper focused on character work because my dream in life was/still is to become a character animator. I thought it best to spend my time studying things like anatomy and gesture. Trying to understand the human body and depict it as accurately as possible. but I noticed something. My drawings look SUPER FLAT. No matter how good the pose or how accurate proportions. My drawings have no depth and I’m struggling with that. I’d trained to get better at perspective before but even so when I was studying, it was only to depict the human form in perspective or looking at things from a cinematic view point. So here’s my plan to improve my technical perspective. In addition to my typical timed gestures/portraits, I’m also going to start doing timed industrial sketches. Starting with simple objects like a pencil sharpener or a teapot and moving up to something more complex like a blender. The goal is to draw some type of environment, background, or scene by the end of every session. I’m curious what you guys think, Will this help me improve? Compare the black and white which were for my perspective class in college to some of my more recent colored illustrations. You’ll definitely see a decline in the technical perspective and overall skill level.
