Post Body

I saw two works by Rubens at the academy of fine arts in Vienna that were made for a temporary arch that was build in Antwerp in 1635 for king Philip IV. It only remained there for about a month. I thought the concept of this temporary monumental architecture is quite interesting and maybe someone has a good article where I could read further about it?

In the exhibition they illustrated it with this huge print if the arch and placed Rubens paintings on it. Also Rubens painted then quite fast and a bit "sloppy" I think because it was only meant to be seen form afar. Theodoor van Thulden Made sketches of it.
