Today I learned that this is called a bannerstone. I’ve always known it to be an atal weight but now I know it’s the same thing.
I found this nearly 30 years ago in one of my dad’s fields in northern Indiana (Marshall County). At the time I had no idea what it was and actually tossed it over my shoulder. About 50 yards of walking later it felt wrong to have tossed it, because it was just so unusual to me at the time. I went back, found it, and kept it ever since. Several years later I learned it was an atal weight. And now I know it’s real name.
