What are your thoughts on using budget buhurt armor for fitted plate armor for LARP?
Post Body

Hi everyone,

I’m a very new LARPER and learning very quickly that pre made off the shelf armor is NOT one size fits all after trying on some armor belonging to members of my local LARP group and that it needs to be custom made to the wearer’s measurements. I’m also realizing fast why only the richest men could afford full suits of plate armor looking at prices from multiple armorers across the internet.

I am now seriously considering ordering custom made to size gambesons/arming doublets and plate armor to avoid any future headaches. I’m specifically after a fitted sallet and bevor, open front style brigandine (plate cuirass is too expensive and brigs are easier to put on your own) and late 15th century style plate arms and legs, given that its LARP it doesn’t have to be 100% historically accurate.

I noticed that some sites such as ‘Honour Kraft’, ‘HBC armor’ or ‘Medieval extreme’ claim to make fitted buhurt graded armor for reasonable prices, they aren’t cheap, but they are not ‘Arm Street’, ’Steel master’ or ‘Forge of Svan’ priced either so it’s a nice compromise. Also, since I’m only going to be getting hit by only foam weapons I won’t have to worry too much about armor not being buhurt safe as I do not intend to do buhurt. I am simply after fitted armor and the man at arms/heavy infantry aesthetic.

What are your thoughts? Do you think this is a bit excessive and that there are easier and cheaper ways of getting amor? Or do you think it’s a reasonable idea/non issue?

Thank you for your time and have a nice day.
