Hey everyone, I've come to a revelation. After buying ARMA Reforger when it first was released for purchase on Steam, I almost returned it as to me, it was a heaping pile of trash. However, after some time and some patience, I have tried it again in 2024. I must say, the game is SO DIFFERENT now.
MODS AND GRAPHICS
The automatic mod download and selection system is a huge selling point for me. Another selling point is the visuals. Graphically, I am impressed. Shadows actually mean something in the game. When I am fighting the tree line, it feels like I am actually fighting in a tree line and not a pixelated mess of green and brown. I would rate the mods themselves and the graphics a 6/10
MODDING COMMUNITY
The type of mods that are popular and currently in use by almost all the community PvP and PvE servers are stellar. The modding community, as young as it is compared to the years that ARMA 3 has under its belt is impressive. I would rate the modding community a 8/10
SERVERS
Currently the community servers are functioning pretty well. I will say however there is a monopoly on the Conflict PvP mode by a certain group, but, I don't think that is too much of an issue as it has a large player base and helps grow the Reforger community. Getting a dedicated server also is not that hard to do if you have enough pennies to rub together to get a dime. I currently am running a 100 slot PvP/PvE/Gamemaster (zeus) server and it only costs $1 per slot with the ability to select what global region you would like your server to be based out of. This has had a huge impact on the community server side of the house as everyone is trying to grow their own group, having a dedicated server vastly aids in that growth. I would rank the server support and function a 6/10
PLAYER BASE
So, for the player base, I could write a whole essay on the good, the bad, and the ugly. However I can best summarize it as clubs. The kind of clubs you would have had in school if that was as thing where ever you lived. Everyone is trying to get everyone else to join their club and it can sometimes be annoying but also, it helps new players get into the game knowledge quicker. I will say, if you are looking for the hardcore milsim game play where there's rank structures and schedules, that is there. If you are looking for a more relaxed group who play tactically but still remember that it is just a video game, we have that too. I would argue that the majority of the player base is just there to have fun and just live out there fantasy or re-lilve their past (if they're a vet). Some of us that are active duty also play in order to use real world tactics and test new ideas. It is interesting to have a cross play function though. PC and Xbox gamers playing together can either the be the most fun you have or the worst sessions ever. There's hardly an in between. All in all I would rank the player base as a 6/10
AI
The AI in Reforger can be either really good or really bad based on the mods used. The default AI is way too easy and hoenstly, almost feels like they threw them in there just to say that AI was in the game and you could do PvE. However once you dabble a bit in modding the AI, like we do for our Kunar Afghanistan map, it completely changes the game and how you play. Going from just 1 tapping enemy AI to actually having to fire and maneuver to close with the enemy AI because they will do the same to you is an intense experience. Vanilla AI 3/10 and modded AI 5/10
SUPPRESION & OTHER EFFECTS
As far as friction is concerned. When getting into a firefight, vanilla gameplay just isn't that riveting. However, if you have different mods like SR SOUND mod or BETTER MUZZLE FLASHES, it will make you jump in your chair sometimes when rounds crack over head. Effects on player vanilla 4/10 and effects on player modded 7/10
I wrote this because I believe that Reforger has so much potential to be such a great game and I really do hope to see y'all there! We have a great middle ground server where we aren't hardcore milsim with ranks and we're also not playing it like BF4. We are aiming to create that middle ground of teamwork, tactical game play, playing the objective, and actually fun. If anyone is interested please check us out as we are looking for people who enjoy Reforger like we do. Our server is pretty new so we're still trying to populate it and get it off the ground with a consistent player base.[DEATHSCREENS AND DADBODS] OCF SABER | IMMERSIVE MILSIM & TEAMWORK

I was just about to make this exact post yesterday. My friend and I loaded up Reforger last night after playing it on release. We are so happy to come back to it being so much better. I'm getting back into modding and will possibly be creating custom scenarios/mods for the workshop.
