Any idea what this is?

So I set this up about 2 weeks ago and I’ve been cycling the water every couple days cause the water keeps getting this brownish hue I assume from the wood even know I boiled it for a couple hours and it was purchased from the aquarium store if that matters. Also there’s this weird slim that keeps appearing on the wood. And one more this how often should i replace the filters?
