Ammonia and Nitrite at .25

Post Body

Hi. I’ve had this fish tank for almost a year. I didn’t realize the importance of testing water until I discovered this sub. I was testing with test strips and it said my nitrates and nitrites were at a dangerous level (the most dangerous color on the strip). I’ve been freaking out for days and have been changing the water and adding live plants. The test strips still said everything was crazy high after adding plants and doing water changes. I saw people on here with a kit that has water in a vile and seemed to be more accurate. I went out and bought it today and tested my water. My nitrate was at 0, nitrite at .25, and ammonia at .25. Not to mention I was shocked that the test strips were wrong. I was convinced my fish was going to die any day now. I’m definitely relieved a bit but how would I lower ammonia and nitrates or is that an okay level? As I said I’m new to water testing so please don’t be mean. I’ve had this tank for almost a year and I’m very attached to my fish. I also use a vac to clean the gravel when I clean my tank.
