Storing a cannister filter long term, best practice?

Hi. Just broke down a tank but want to hang on to the filter. Not sure how best to store it. Should I:

A.) Drain it, clean it, and store it dry? B.) Drain it, clean it, add fresh water, and store it full? C.) Leave it as it is and store it with the water in it now? D.) Something completely different.
