Any one have experience painting gravel?

I recently got a bag of mixed gravel, green black, and white, that looks like Shrek puked. I want to hopefully spray paint them to be all black rather than individually sorting.
A betta will be in the tank as well as plants. Is there any safe way to do this? I don’t want to waste the bag :(
