I am setting up an 8 gallon shrimp tank using an Aqueon Evolve 8 and shrimp specific substrate. To keep the shrimp from getting sucked into the filter, I pulled one of the sponges from the filter of my main tank and (wonder of wonders) it fit perfectly behind the intake on the new tank. I also removed two large hand-fulls of bio rings from the filter on my established tank and tossed them into the filter area of the new tank. The amount of established biological filter media that is now in this 8 gallon tank is far more than usually ends up in 20-30 gallon tanks. Is it safe to assume that I could stock a handful of cherry shrimp, say 5-6 without much risk to the shrimp? Any other advice about setting up a shrimp tank would be greatly appreciated, I've kept fish and planted tanks for years, but have not yet jumped into the shrimp world and don't want the little critters to pay for my ignorance.
