Post Body

I have a question regarding re-using my existing aquarium stand which is currently supporting my 35-gallon aquarium. I recently got a 75-gallon, however the tank would hang off the stand on both sides by 3 inches. (Cabinet width is 3’-6” and tank is 4’ wide. Depth of the stand is good). My plan is to add a 2” thick butcher block countertop to the stand which would leave me with a 1” reveal all the way around the 75-gallon tank, with a final surface area of 23”x4’-2”. (Current existing cabinet surface is 22”x3’-6”) Is this sufficient enough to bear the weight of the tank? The cabinet itself is more than capable of supporting the overall weight as its built out of 3/4” oak-veneered particle board and is laughably overbuilt.
