On Easter of this year the motor on my 2020 Tuono had a critical failure. The bike had just under 6,000 miles and a valve dropped and grenaded the motor. The bike was 13 days out of warranty and at first Aprilia refused to do anything. After many calls they offered to cover 50% cost of the motor and that’s it, better than nothing I guess. Turns out it was 50% before tax so it wasn’t even really 50% which cost me just under $7000. It took a month and a half to replace the motor, but no big deal. The bike ran great for 1 day and then started running extremely rough with a lot of backfiring at idle, so I took it back to the dealership that did the work. Turns out the wiring harness wasnt plugged in right or something when they sent the crate motor. After fixing that the bike ran somewhat better and they said that it should clear up over time. I took the bike back and rode it for two days and the bike ran worse and worse. Took it back to the dealership where it sat for months, Aprilia said there was nothing wrong with the bike and that they were not going to do anything. After speaking with the owner of the dealership he said that he would call Aprilia and get this taken care of, the dealership agreed with me that the bike was running badly and not right/ safe to ride. Turns out it was a bad coil on the brand new crate motor aprilia sent and refused to authorize the dealership to check, as they were paying for repairs at this point after I purchased the new motor. I got a call Friday November 10th that they had replaced the coil and that the bike was now running well. They wanted to ride it for a few days to make sure everything was good and we’re suppose to drop it off at my house today. Got a call about an hour ago that the water pump is leaking oil and needs to be replaced and of course they don’t have any in stock so they will have to order it. I have been without a functional motorcycle that I have been paying insurance for, having to call people to get them to do their jobs, fight people that a broken bike is actually broken, missed an entire summer of riding, paid a large amount of money in repairs on a 2 year old bike, and just had the absolute worse customer service experience I think possible. It sucks because I really did love the bike, but at this point I hate Aprilia and have no faith that they care about their customers at all. Just a word of warning and some screaming at the universe because I really miss riding.
In South Africa the agents were wankers and went bankrupt. Spent more time offering cappuccino than actually fixing bikes. Wrote to Aprilia (Piaggio) to complain. Got no answers. Their bikes run like demons and handle well but the aftermarket spares and service is shit. Won't buy again. I am parting mine out.
There are no spares for these bikes, the customer service is terrible. Fuck it. Buy Japanese or Austrian.
