Hi there! I’m a rising senior in HS (17 F) from Wisconsin and really really struggling with applying to college and would deeply appreciate any recommendations you could recommend!
I am fairly committed to going into the information systems/science field (but really into anything that mashes data and people together).
I have a okay GPA/test scores (3.79UW 4.43W & 28) but have taken an extremely challenging course load with lots of PLTW, honors and 5 APs. I have a very strong resume including multiple clubs I have 4 leadership positions (President of 3 clubs) and also swim every year. In addition I started my own business at 13 and have had it since. I also work at my moms store and do all of the reporting, vendor sales tracking and media graphic creations. I have multi merit and academic awards. In addition to work experience for multiple years.
I’m not particular about the location, though I do want to be connected preferably in a city or nice town. I am mostly on my own in terms of tuition unfortunately. At this point I have no interest in a huge party scene as I’ve never been into drinking or anything like that. However I would like a nice student life and am not opposed to a party school. I love to be near the water but that is by no means a requirement. I grew up very middle class with two blue collar parents so a school that is very stuffy and wealthy does make me nervous. I would love to go somewhere with slightly nicer better than WISCO, and have no preference on which direction. I have lived in the Midwest my whole life so a touch nervous about the culture shock, but am really sick of some of the close minded and severely right leaning values here.
Finally as I have an official ADHD diagnosis a school that has a student services is a must.
Thank you so much for any advice you could pass along!!!
Iowa State would be a good option. They give good merit scholarships to OOS students with high GPAs. You could study Data Science or Management Information Systems.
ISU has a lot of school spirit. Ames is a nice town, although the Iowa executive and legislature are conservative.
