Evidently, my Whirlpool dishwasher is equipped for an interior light. What does it look like, and where is it supposed to go?
Post Body

tl; dr Recently purchased a Whirlpool dishwasher, model WDT970SAKV or WDT970SAKV0. There is a menu setting in the control panel for turning an interior light on when the door opens. I'm assuming this means there actually is a place to install a light inside, although I suppose the dishwasher could just have the wrong firmware or something.

If it is possible to install a light in this dishwasher, I'd sure like to do it. Does anybody know what the LED assembly looks like, what kind of connector it uses, or where I might want to look for it inside the dishwasher?

Thanks!

The longer version for people who enjoy reading this sort of thing, or who have more time on their hands than they can fill—e.g., prison convicts, people stuck in meetings, dental clinic patients and truckers stuck in traffic.

Hi, everybody. We recently purchased a dishwasher and it's actually really nice, with a metal tub and extra racks and sensors and the whole bit. So I shouldn't have been surprised when I was going through the onscreen controls and found one that controls the interior light. According to the manual, it's a light that goes on when the door is open, which, hey, that sounds cool, and I was all set to impress the neighbors with it, but unfortunately, it doesn't light.

I assume it's some kind of heat-shielded LED assembly, so in my mind I'm envisioning an LED encased in a clear heat-resistant shield, sandwiched between an injection-molded translucent front lens and a reflective backing. (That's what I imagine, anyway; for all I know it could be a faerie trapped in a perfume bottle, and the faerie died.)

Can anybody direct me to a diagram of where this light goes, what it looks like, and what the plug looks like? I contacted customer service a few times before I realized that this is one of those supply-chain issues, so if it's not possible, I'll just register it so it will be covered by the warranty and stop worrying about it until the supply chain is caught up.

The interior light is a luxury feature we've never had on any dishwasher, and so I'm confident we can live without it indefinitely if we have to. Still, it must be pretty understandable that I'd like to get it working if possible. Yet every time I've called customer service, I've been given:

  1. Attitude, or
  2. A PDF of the printed manual that came with the appliance. Rather than printing a different manual for every model of dishwasher, Whirlpool decided to publish a generic manual that looks like it is meant to accompany every dishwasher they make. They accomplished this by using a clever Choose Your Own Adventure style ("This feature is available on select models. If you think yours might be one of them, then good for you, sunshine. Continue reading this section, otherwise skip to p. 34."); or
  3. More attitude, plus assurances that they have no authority to divulge information about how to operate or repair any appliance, with the strong implication that, simply by seeking a classified document like the manual for our dishwasher, I am considered "difficult" and my name has been placed on a list. Indeed, once or twice customer support became so evasive they were on the verge of expressing doubt that dishwashers can be proven to exist at all, and I ended the chat before they could gaslight me any further ("Sir. I heartily assure you that The Whirlpool Corporation is not in the business of making imaginary appliances such as—what did you call it? A 'dish-washer,' you say? My, don't we have a vivid imagination. Ha ha, Larry come over here and check this out.") Customer deception is such an odd way to make a living. Or,
  4. A PDF manual for a specific model of dishwasher, which only dashed my newly-risen hopes upon the rocks of despair when, upon inspection, it turned out to bear only superficial resemblance to our dishwasher.

I do make an effort to be respectful, polite and sympathetic when chatting with customer support, because I know from experience how difficult such jobs can be. I'm even nice to chatbots. (Seriously, no one will ever regret having been kind to an AI.)

Thanks for any help! Have a good one.
