Top-load washers at least in the US are still the most popular models. It seems like that’s the case because they are cheaper than the equivalent front loader and people just have not committed to making the switch to more efficient front load models.
I also believe there’s this idea that front load washers do not clean clothes as well as top loaders. Which factually has been proven to not be true by various testing agencies (Consumer Reports being one of the biggest testers). Front loaders are generally more efficient at cleaning your clothes, use less water and energy, and have some of the largest capacities.
I’m curious to know people’s reasoning as to why they choose a top loader or a front loader model.
Every front-load washer I’ve had has experienced a failure of the door seal. When this happens, I get water all over my floor. It’s a big mess to deal with and it can be expensive if it messes up the floor.
No top-load washer I’ve ever owned has dumped water all over my floor.
Top-load is a better design.
