Who do I have 2 of every file after a move?

I loved my collection to a new laptop ans every song is now duplicated. I deleted one copy of A few of them and they were gone altogether. ( i reimported the albums from bandcamp, and I giess ill have to find the CDs from the other ones.) the files are on an external drive . Is there anything I can do to consolidate? Thanks
