Apple Pay with Apple Card failing

At my university you can pay for food with either a school card or credit card. The CC readers take Apple Pay, but when I try to use my Apple Card via Apple Pay it’ll act like it took it on the reader, but nothing happens on my phone. A few seconds later it says declined, or sometimes on my phone it’ll say use another card... anyone else run into this??
