Hey all,
Apologies for the bit of the delay with this TestFlight build, but the goodies inside should make up for it. Long story short I didn't forget you (at all), just got busy with the iOS 15 update on the main build, and this beta build diverged from it quite a bit with new notifications infrastructure, and it took a bit of work to merge those back into each other, but it should be good now!
This update incorporates all the iOS 15 juicy things, plus some more. As a recap, the iOS 15 things were a new Open in Apollo Safari extension, XL widgets on iPad, a Jumbopollo widget, new cool icons, Quick Note support on iPad, and easy sharing of what you're viewing with Siri commands. Also there's two new apps in the Apollo family if you're unfamiliar: Amplosion, an AMP page blocker for iOS 15 with a lovable dog, and Achoo, a webpage HTML viewer for iOS 15. Check 'em out!
As for additions in this update, it's more improvements around notifications with a slew of great stuff that I'd love you to test.
- Subreddit notifications. Set up notifications for a subreddit, with optional criteria to trigger that notification (like keywords, or an upvote threshold). It's primitive and would love feedback.
- User notifications. Follow a specific user in a similar way as the subreddit notifications. Great for when a user posts something juicy and you want to know as soon as they make the update post! Note this respects the user's "accept followers" setting, so in the interest of privacy and letting users have control over this if they have that disabled you won't be able to follow them.
- Test notifications! If you're having an issue with notifications, at the bottom of the Notifications Settings page there should be an option to send you a test notification. If you don't receive it, or you do and something's weird, please reach out and share some info as to what's going wrong.
- Better error handling! Should communicate them better, and log any issues to your device, so if you're encountering issues in addition to sending a test notification, please reach out with your logs via Settings tab > About > Logs and describe your issue.
Note that in addition, this build resets the previous notification stuff plus some purchase states so as to be able to test the new notification server plus validation. Remember that TestFlight purchases are in a sandbox environment, so none of the purchases are real, so they don't go through as real purchases. This can be seen in the confirmation sheet where iOS will confirm this to you as well.
Make one of these fake purchases through Pro or Ultra and you'll be able to unlock the purchases for free in the TestFlight version per usual, you just need to go through these steps to validate the "purchase" so that the process is consistent with the main version of the app (and for testing). If you run into any issues give me a shout.
Make sure to toggle on notifications too. Settings tab > Notifications. Would love your feedback especially around testing the heck out of notifications and new features, and reporting any issues/things that you think would be helpful feedback! Some things could be completely broken! Who knows! But I want to find out and get feedback and make it better alongside the beautiful u/changelog. :)
