EDIT2: /u/fabwa says it's already in the works and being taken care of for some time. My bad for getting a little trigger happy, I just did a search on the sub and didn't find any discussion about it so I wasn't sure.
Once AntShares rebrands to NEO, there's gonna be some confusion for newcomers. Twitter and other social media platforms have the advantage of just being able to rename themselves and change the profile picture. Here on Reddit, though, we can't change our name. We can change the CSS to be NEO, but we will forever be /r/AntShares, even if a year from now people try to find us and can't find us.
What is the subs plan on how we are moving forward after the formal rebranding (which is looks like will be July 24th I believe)?
Options I can think of:
Simple CSS Change
Change the CSS to be whatever the new NEO theme is
Explain in the description, such as describing it as "Home for discussion of all things NEO (Formally known as AntShares)" so it's clear why the subreddit name does not match the new name
Claim relevant subreddits for NEO, such as /r/NEO, and make that sub redirect to here. This would be done Like the DragonBall Z and dbz sub did. Guarantees future people find our sub despite the name being wrong
This has the issue of us not coming up as easily on google when people google for discussions. Things like "reddit neo whitepaper finalized" might prioritize other subreddits over us, since none of our names match any of those search terms.
Swap Subs
Claim /r/Neo
Make this sub read-only (basically an archive of old posts)
Make a sticky post saying where the new sub is
Make a CSS splash like the Dragonball Z -> DBZ did to redirect /r/antshares to /r/neo, but have two links. "Click here to redirect to the NEO subreddit", "Click here to view the archived AntShares subreddit"
This has the pros of new comers knowing where to find us, and us showing up properly on google when people google for reddit discussions. But it has the cons for our existing users needing to now move. This might be very hard. The new subreddit might only have 5k subscribers because the not-as-active to inactive accounts that just subscribed once at some point might not hear the news. They will never see a /r/antshares post on their front page, reminding them about us. It might give us a bit of an immediate hit in this subreddit, despite probably being better long-term.
What are everyone's thoughts? Is there a plan laid out I missed?
EDIT: Apparently I didn't realize /r/neo was taken by someone outside of this community. I thought it was brand new because it was empty, so I figured we already had it. I'll PM the owner of the sub and see what his plans are and if he would be okay with transferring ownership. In the meantime, /u/Deaf_null has ownership of /r/neogas as a backup. Not ideal, but not a bad alternative.
EDIT2: Mods say this is already being taken care of. Scrap this all boys.
