Question Re: Roll Top Desk - No Pictures Due to House Fire
Post Body

Hello!

I'm so sorry I don't have good photos, but I can describe the desk in detail. My neighbor gave it to me after he moved into a nursing home, since I've been obsessed with it my whole life. Unfortunately, due not ever wanting to get rid of it/a house fire, I don't have great photos.

It was handmade by my neighbor's grandfather, sometime between 1880 and 1900. It's a dark cherry wood, and has no nails or metal parts, save for the locking mechanism.

Here is a photo post-fire, provided by the insurance company/after firefighters tore apart the house to put the fire out. Then an approximate match found on the google. https://imgur.com/a/PS2OjOg We're not allowed in the house due to structural damage, but insurance wants us to approximate the worth of the desk and other antiques. Because there is no manufacturing/company involved in the making, I don't know if that means it's worth more or less than what I'm seeing online!

It is more plain than the one found on google. The handles are very basic, rounded pulls, and the back is just one piece of wood, sanded smooth- no carvings. My desk also lacks the inlay on the surface that the one in the photo has.

EDIT: In the US. Desk was made in New England area.

Please help!
