Hello! I hope this is the right place to ask, but I’m very curious about the material that makes up the top of my desk. The entire desk is made of solid wood (not sure which kind), and topped with a smooth-feeling, black finish. On the front of the top drawer is a plaque saying “Gunn-Lino Top” and says it was patented in 1923. Does Lino mean linoleum?
The main reason I want to know is that whenever I clean the desk with wipes/windex/anything, the finish comes off a bit on the wipe/paper towel. Additionally, if anything acidic gets on it, it appears to take much more off. I’ve included photos of a part of the desk, the plaque, a spot on the desk where something acidic spilled (post-cleanup) with visible damage and a wipe showing the black finish that comes off. If anyone knows what it is, I’d like to find a way to clean it that doesn’t damage it. Hopefully someone can help me out!
PS: Any other info about the desk you might know is more than welcome (style, type of wood etc.)!
