Telling people how psychiatry is not the answer is something that will get you downvoted online, but also ganged up on in real life. How come it’s acceptable to say: “Religion is not the answer. Sex is not the answer. Drugs are not the answer.” But if you say psychiatry isn’t the answer all hell breaks loose? Someone’s response to me is that psychiatry exists in multiple cultures. Ok? So what? Child brides, genitalia mutilation, suicide, strange paraphilias have existed in different cultures, diversity and history doesn’t equal GOOD! People are so used to leaving everything to the “experts” they’re willing to overlook psychiatric industry’s role in abuse of women, racism, eugenics, and the dumbing down of our own generation. When I hear different people say “psychiatry saved my life” I notice how if they actually got better, they talk about how they got into relationships, made an effort to do better in their career and school, and hobbies etc etc. they don’t even give themselves credit for their own personal power or more credit to the HUMANS around them who helped them, not fucking brain numbing pills. For anyone else who is tapering off medicine, you are more powerful than the pills, go experience orgasm, friendship, love, hate, it’s better to feel at full spectrum than to feel like a robot..even if it’s counter cultural .
