at https://www.suspended-objects.org/ artist and writer jenny odell catalogues trash in a dump in san francisco, sharing the stories of thrown-away objects - both the stories from the owners who no longer want them, and the details of their manufacture - where were they made, and why, and how? it's an art project that draws attention to the surreal culture of late capitalist consumption thru an earnest focus on its extravagant waste. i find it weirdly hypnotic to read through. it's sad and chilling and fascinating all at once.
if you're interested in themes of anticonsumption/anticapitalism a lot of her work might be interesting to you, like "there's no such thing as a free watch" (her investigation into weird instagram dropshipping scams.) she's been one of my favourite artists for a long time and i figured id share her work here!
