Hello everyone.
I'm a french student. I study both psychology (psychoanalysis mostly) and anthropology.
I'm doing a research on the anthropology of mental illness. I didn't narrow it down yet, so pretty much anything you could tell me about it could help.
Basically, I'm wondering if mental illness is a concept that exists everywhere? In other words, is madness a universal notion? How is it seen by other cultures? Is it seen as a pathology or is it seen as a personnality? as a state of mind? etc. If it is seen as an illness, how is it dealt with?
Infos about ayurveda and chamanism in particular are welcome.
Anything could help: documents, thoughts, e-books, personal experience from other cultures, etc.
Thanks!
