Anthem was the greatest game demo I have ever played.
Post Body

It's a damn shame the full game will never release.

Jokes aside: I am 33 years old and have been playing video games since before I could even properly hold a controller. I have played several hundred video games in my lifetime. Among them, only a small handful have ever gripped me for years at a time--Halo 2, Ragnarok Online, and Rocket League, the last of three showing several thousands of hours of playtime on my steam account.

I have no doubt that if Anthem lived up to what the potential it had, it would have been one of those games for me.

I would have been happy to keep playing it. To support it. To encourage my friends to play it. To sink money into it. Hell, I've probably spent a few hundred on Rocket League despite it being a $20 game, and while a few hundred is nothing in comparison to the billions that EA is sitting on, I'm just one of god knows how many players who would have happily done the same.

But no.

Two years of hoping, waiting, praying that I'd finally get to see Anthem live up to its potential. Two years that somehow both felt so long to wait, yet only a fraction of what I would have been willing to wait to play the game Anthem could have been.

That all dies tonight.

I know EA doesn't give a shit what I think. They're already one of the most hated companies in gaming, yet they will continue to be successful for who knows how long. They don't care what people think; they just want money, and time has proven that unfortunately, being loved isn't a requirement for opening peoples' wallets. That's not a shot at anyone who buys games from EA, rather just me expressing frustration of the truth of how things are. Hell, I know there will probably be games I'll find myself buying from them, even if it leaves a nasty fucking taste in my mouth to give them any support, because there are games you simply can't get anywhere else.

But I just want to take a moment to say:

To all the developers that worked so hard to make this game what it could have been, who still believed, who tried, and who gave it their all: Thank you so much for your efforts. Thank you for believing in this game, despite everything happening around you. Thank you for trying to make Anthem into what it could have been, even if the circumstances surrounding the game made it an impossible task.

And to those a both EA and BioWare who ruined the efforts of those developers, as well as those in charge who could have fixed things, yet instead have decided--be it through inaction or direct influence--to run the game into the ground, eventually leading to its cancellation:

Fuck you.

Fuck you for ruining what could have been one of the greatest games in a long fucking time.

Remember when the game was code named "Dylan", with the hopes it would be spoken of for years to come?

I'm not sure which is more depressing: That you got your wish in all the wrong ways possible, or that you fucked up a game that could have been everything you wanted it to be.

So again,

One last time:

To everyone who tried, from the bottom of my heart: Thank you.

And to everyone who fucked it up, from the bottom of my heart: Fuck you.
