So, a little background before I go into what I am thinking. This is meant to be for mobile base/apatarmtent applications- for use in things like ARES, RACES, EMCOMMS amongst applications.
So here's the lowdown- will this idea work and be worth attempting. The idea is to take an 5/16th (or other diameter whip) and connect it to a "bank" of pre-load coils, (eg, coils for 40M, 160M, etc with proper wire taps), an internal, ceramic switch which will allow the operator to select the correct band and pre-load coil, which then that coil Will be connected to the whip. The issue is, I am not sure if I need to worry about the other coils being affected by the Rf current going to/from the antenna whip. I assume not but I want to also know if anyone has done this or had a similar idea? It is going to be magnetically mounted.
Feedback appreciated- just barely started getting into Antenna Design and figured this would be a cool, cheap project. 73 DE W5KGP
