How would the series have been different if the kids didn’t have access to animals (aka if Cassie’s parents weren’t vets)

Post Body
I’m only on book five so no spoilers please! I was explaining the series to a friend yesterday and he said that it was awfully convenient that Cassie was able to get them access to so many different animals.
So I started thinking about how different the books would be if they didn’t have that access. They would still be able to morph everyday animals but how useful would a cat or a mouse be long term?
Curious on your thoughts!
