Prop check and bag check

Hello, I want to ask about prop and bag check. Do they search your entire bag before entering? How does cosplay prop check work, is it just what you actually carry with you or is it whatever you have with you? I am unsure if there is something like an xray scanner and how serious the magnetometer is if it would pick up on something like a belt buckle. Also on thursday, would it be possible to have a 'prescan' to see if everything in my bag would be fine to go in before the actual con?
