My question has 2 parts, any advice on either is greatly appreciated:
1) My company has assigned me to a project overseas for roughly 8-12 months (depending on project delays/issues), so my house will be empty, though I’m leaving my house keys with a relative for general upkeep/safety. My relative is a blunt normie and fairly internet illiterate, so they don’t understand the value of my figures and I don’t trust them to maintain them. At the moment all of my figures are on open shelves, in a blackout room which I dust regularly. The weather here isn’t terribly hot or humid, but sudden heatwaves that incrase the temperautre 10-20 degree celcius are common-ish. How would you go about storing your figures if gone away that long? Put them back in the boxes? Does plasticizer leak within that timeframe? Wrap the shelves in plastic wrap or cover them with sheets/blinds? Just leave them open? Should I take off accessories (i.e weapons or handheld items) to prevent deforming from weight? Does the figure type make a difference (e.g nendroid vs PUP vs scale)? I know the sub’s FAQ, and figure knowledge in general, says to never seal figures, but what about leaving them unattended.
2) There’s a possibility the location will have a permanent office set up and I’ll be posted there long term (which I’m kind of hoping for). If that’s the case, does anyone have tips or experiences on moving figures internationally (it’s a 14 hour flight across ocean(s) from where I’m based now). Boxes, couriers, air/sea, customs, taxes, unexpected issues, etc. My collection is currently a mix nendroids, prize, PUP, 1/8, and 1/4 scales, 34 in total, so it isn’t a massive collection by this subreddit’s standards, but not something I can just pack in suitcases. This is somewhat connected to the first question since figures would be unattended for potential weeks/months, but has mroe to it. Note: every figure still has its original box/packaging.
Sorry for the length, but I tried searching this online and asking around, and just didn’t feel confident enough with what I could find, so I was thinking this sub’s lived experience might help more.
Thank you in advance!
