Help! I'm trying to drag images and drop them in a grid, while keeping track of which cells are occupied!

Hey yall! I'm making a webapp where I have images and wanna drag them and places the into a grid, I'm using Angular 15 and SpringBoot for the backend,
What I know is that in order to do so I have to use cdkDragList/cdkDropList but I have no idea if it works with images, also do I have to use mat-grid for the grid? Im new to Angular so please bear with me, thanks!
