Problem with first layer

Heya, i keep running into this problem on the first layer, especially with bigger prints. The nozzle seems to get clogged while the extruder keeps pushing filament in. I have to pause and pull out the stuck filament (2nd pic). Any ideas what it could be? I think it might be the bed not being totally level but I've used feeler gauges to level it multiple times. I can't seem to get it completely level. After the first layer it prints fine.

I'm running a anet A8 plus with upgraded board (mks 1.4, mosfets and tmc 2208 drivers) rest is stock. Thought about getting a bl3touch for the leveling
