Looking for something to improve the Android keyboard (similar to the iPad concept video 'hooper selection')

I know it's possible to get that sort of functionality on the iPad through a Cydia app, I was wondering if it's possible to get that on Android devices too? I'm using Swiftkey X right now which I'd be reluctant to change, but I'm not sure whether the text selection thing is linked to the keyboard. Or if the text selection is even possible to edit.
