How do you carry your phone?

I've heard the occasional comment about how carrying a modern smart phone in your pants pocket is somehow a bad thing.
Is it? Also, if it is, how do you carry yours?
EDIT: To clarify, I'm aiming to get the Galaxy Nexus with that curved screen thing. Would that alter how I carry it any? I'm currently using an ancient i-mate PDA2K with Windows Mobile 2003 on it, and this thing is a BRICK of a phone. The thought of a thin phone makes me worry I'm going to snap it in two.
