USB-C not making a connection

I've got a ZTE phone with a USB-C charger. It worked fine for about 2 years. Last month, when I inserted the charging cable, it wouldn't make a connection.
I checked that it was free of lint & debris, made sure the tab wasn't bent, checked the solders on the charging port, tried different chargers. Everything is normal, but it won't charge unless I plug it in and slowly pull the charger out until it finds a "sweet spot'.
Please help.
