Hi, I have a Moto Z Force on Android 8.0. Today, all hardware buttons except the home button stopped working. I can no longer use the power key or volume keys. I want to restart the device to see if I've run into some freakish bug, but from what I've seen most apps are not allowed to access the power menu without root privileges. My phone is not rooted.
I have tried installing Virtual Volume Button and Power Button to Volume Button. The former works but doesn't seem to interact with the latter; I'm still unable to bring up the power menu but luckily can at least change the volume on my phone. I'm worried however if my phone dies that I won't be able to turn it back on. I've researched it a bit and seen that Android developer settings are supposed to have a "scheduled power on" setting, but I see nothing of the sort in mine. Does anyone have recommendations to either make sure my phone will be able to stay on, or to be able to restart the device without any of the physical buttons working besides the home button/fingerprint sensor?
EDIT: It seems the issue must be a hardware problem. The buttons are clicky and press/depress but Android simply does not respond. If anyone knows a solution to bypass the charging battery screen when a Moto phone is plugged in (in order to just go straight to powering on) after dying please let me know; if my phone dies I won't be able to turn it on and I'll be screwed.
EDIT 2 [SOLUTION]: Definitely a hardware issue and repair shops don't like to repair Motos it seems. To work around this, if you find yourself in a similar issue: Install Virtual Volume Button from the Google Play Store to have a floating volume changer that's persistent on all screens, then follow this YouTube tutorial after using the command "adb restart bootloader" to enter fastboot mode. This tutorial will make it so your phone will start automatically when plugged in, bypassing the battery charge screen and the need for a power button press. When finished changing the setting in fastboot using the tutorial, just use the "reboot" command while fastboot is still open in Command Prompt/PowerShell to get back into normal boot. If you need to ever power off your phone while it's on, use Button Mapper and route power dialog to a functioning button; in my case, I used a button on my headphone controls. Hope this helps if you're ever stuck here too!
