Android Messages- Can't Take Picture error

Running the "Android Messages" SMS app on my OP3t. About one out of every 10 times I hit the little " " symbol and select the "in app camera", everything seems to work, but when I got to take the phone I get a toast notification "Can't Take Picture."
I've tried Googling, but it seems like I'm the only person having this problem. The problem has persisted through app re-installs and hard resets. Any thoughts?
