Why does gmail on ios have pinch zooming while android has no zooming at all in the native gmail app?

I love my android phone, but since I tried out gmail on a ipod touch, I want the same experience on the android version of gmail.
Edit: Its only on rich text emails. Plain text emails will obey the device font size options.
