[Discussion] Why do no android phones feature a physical silent mode switch not to dissimilar to iPhones?

I feel like this would be something amazing to have on an android phone yet I cannot find any android phone, high end or mid range or low end, that has this feature. I have to say that it is the only thing from the iPhone range that I would love to see on an android phone. Anyone know why no OEMs that make android devices have even attempted this? Would anybody else like this or is it just me?

EDIT: Seeing as lollipop completely changed how silent mode was handled I was surprised to see this hasn't been mentioned!

EDIT 2: I understand some people use the volume down button to mute their device. Yes it provides the same result (on some devices and android versions) but it has changed in lollipop. It also requires you to manually wake up the screen BEFORE you can do it. A switch provides easier access without needing to wake the device.
I have also realised, thanks to /u/tccool, that if there where a physical mute/silent switch then the software option would need to be removed as the switch would then conflict with the software option. I, personally, would prefer a physical option.

P.S I am by no means saying that the software option should be phased out and replaced with a physical switch, just presenting the idea of having the choice between the two.
