I know. I'm talking about the Greek city states around the northern coast of the Black Sea, which received at least one monumental inscription from Darius at Phanagoria and likely two as the original home of the Old Persian text found in Gherla. Several Greek cities in the region also show signs of conflict around the Ionian Revolt, and the rise of the Bosporan Kingdom coincides directly with the Persian withdrawal from Europe after Xerxes' invasion of Greece (Neiling and Rehm, 2010). The Scythian campaign also led directly into Megabazus' campaign through the Thracian coast and Macedon.

He probably snagged a few extra Greek city states out of that whole ordeal. So not a total wash.
