Verifying Centenarians?
Post Body

There’re a few people in my tree who had a seemingly preposterous obits which put them at advanced ages, BUT I eventually verified via census that they were either the age stated or around that age. One great grandma had a claimed age of 107 on obit; per various censuses, she was 100-109 at death. However, many other family members have fewer records.

To what extent should I take old, small-town newspapers with a grain of salt?

Edit: that side of my family has long fertility expectancy so that doesn’t help too much either….
